Kinesio Taping® gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and
range of motion. It is also used for Preventive Maintenance, Edema, and Pain Management.
Kinesio Taping® is a technique based on the body’s own natural healing process. This Kinesio Taping®
exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems. This method basically
stems from the science of Kinesiology, hence the name “Kinesio”. Muscles are not only attributed to the
movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc.

Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms. Consequently,
so much attention was given to the importance of muscle function that the idea of treating the muscles in order
to activate the body’s own healing process came about. Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that muscles
and other tissues could be helped by outside assistance.

The Kinesio Taping® is applied over muscles to reduce pain and
inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in
movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is non-restrictive type of taping which allows
for full range of motion.

Examples of what Kinesio Tape can be used for are: muscular facilitation or
inhibition in pediatric patients, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain
(subluxations, herniated disc), knee conditions, shoulder conditions,
hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar
fasciitis, patella tracking, pre and post surgical edema, ankle sprains, athletic
preventative injury method, and as a support method.

Your first consultation at Wee Sally Therapeutic Massage for Kinesio Taping is free.
Each new application there after will cost £4, or alternatively, you can purchase a roll of Kinesio Tape fom the clinic for £8, and then have the tape applied for free during any of your Massage visits.

Reflexology is a popular and relaxing treatment based on the principle that reflex points on the soles, tops, and sides of the feet correspond to areas throughout the body.
In this way, the feet can be seen as a map of the body.
Reflexologists work on the reflex points with their thumbs, fingers or knuckles, using specialised massage techniques, thought to help correct imbalances throughout the body.

Origins of Reflexology
The Chinese are said to have used an early form of Reflexology more than 5000 years ago in their use of pressure therapies. Egyptian tomb artwork also shows foot massage, indicating that working on the feet is an ancient practice, used in many cultures.

Modern reflexology, where the feet are divided into zones corresponding to areas within the body, was developed by Eunixe D. Ingham in the 1930s and is now a popular complementary therapy.

What happens during a Reflexology treatment?
A reflexology treatment lasts for approximately an hour. As it’s just the feet that are usually worked on, you remain fully clothed, simply removing your shoes and socks.

You’ll be invited to relax on a reclining chair or treatment table, or to put your feet up on a footstool.
Your feet will be cleansed at the start of the treatment and then a variety of reflexology techniques will be used, adapted to suit your individual needs.

Reflexology can also be carried out on hands, and ears as well as feet. The zones running through the feet also have corresponding zones in the hands and ears.

Can everyone enjoy Reflexology?
This therapy is suited for most adults but there are certain conditions where you should avoid Reflexology.
To ensure the continued well-being of clients, all treatments begin with a consultation, which enables your therapist to make sure that Reflexology is right for you. In some instances your Doctor’s permission may be required before treatment commences, for example, if you have Diabetes.
A confidential record card will be kept with any relevant notes for future treatments.

After your treatment
To gain maximum benefit from Reflexology, it is advisable to drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol in the hours immediately after treatment. If you have any queries, don’t hesitate to ask your therapist for advice.

Aromatherapy aims to treat the whole person by helping to restore the harmony of mind, body and spirit.

It works with the pure properties of plants, using their essential oils in a natural, complementary therapy which is said to help improve both physical and emotional well-being. Aromatherapy is often used in therapeutic massage with the benefits of relaxing or uplifting fragrances.

Origins of Aromatherapy
The ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks were among the first to appreciate the benefits of essential oils. Scientific studies in the 1920s confirmed that essential oils may be absorbed by the skin and reach the organs through the body’s circulatory system.

What happens during treatment?
An Aromatherapy massage lasts for approximately one hour. During the treatment, towels or linens are used to ensure your modesty. Aromatherapists regularly use up to 50 essential oils, and each has different therapeutic properties.

After a full consultation, the aromatherapist will carefully select a small number of essential oils to suit your individual needs. These oils are then blended with vegetable oil, known as a carrier oil, before being applied to the skin.

In addition to using essential oils in massage, your aromatherapist may put a few drops of essential oil in a steamer, oil burner, or humidifier, to spread the oil vapor throughout the treatment room. So, remember to breathe deeply and relax to enjoy those evocative aromas.

Can everyone enjoy Aromatherapy?
This therapy is suitable for most adults but there are certain conditions where you should avoid Aromatherapy. To ensure the continued well-being of clients, all treatments begin with a consultation, which enables your therapist to make sure that aromatherapy is right for you. In some instances your doctors permission may be required before treatments can commence, for example, if you have a heart condition. A confidential record card will be kept with any relevant notes for future treatments.

After your treatment.
To gain maximum benefit from aromatherapy, it is advisable to drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol in the hours immediately following your treatment. If you have any queries, don’t hesitate to ask your therapist for advice.

I am pleased to announce that we now offer Hot and Cold Stone therapy treatments either as a stand alone service, or in conjunction with our regular massage.

There are several different methods of using stones in a Massage treatment.
Placement: Placement involves positioning the stones on certain areas of the body, and resting them there to allow the heat to penetrate the muscle tissue and assist in relaxing the muscles to allow deeper penetration when massaging those areas.

Gliding and massage: Effective hot stone massage uses the stones as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level that the client is comfortable with.

The heat from the stones relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to the area being worked, assisting in the acceleration of the healing process.

Call now to book your next massage session, and why not ask for Hot Stones to be incorporated into your session.
As a warm up for winter, why not have a relaxing hot stone massage to help fight off those winter chills and the stressors of the holiday season.

Swedish Massage, created by Per Henrik Ling is the foundations for most Western Massage Modalities which are practiced today.
There are 7 massage strokes involved in Swedish Massage, and a combination of the strokes below will be used in a personalized routine to provide the client with the most effective massage session to meet their needs.

Effleurage also known as “gliding strokes”, these are used for warming the tissue and spreading the massage lubrication used.
Effleurage also prepares the tissue for deeper strokes and assists in Lymphatic and venous flow.

Petrissage or “Kneading Strokes” consist of rhythmic pressing, rolling and squeezing movements. Petrissage assists in increasing circulation, flushing the tissue of muscular toxins and alleviating muscle soreness.

Friction Strokes move the superficial tissue over the muscles and deeper tissue. These strokes do not glide, but penetrate deep into the muscle tissue to break up scar tissue, release trigger points and spasms in the muscle.

Tapotement or Percussion strokes are invigorating strokes to help increase circulation, release muscle tension and stimulate the client.

Vibration strokes are tremulous movements into the tissue, from a fine point on the body to as large an area as the whole body. Vibration strokes create relaxation, stimulation and increased circulation.

Stretching is a series of slow, gentle sustained movements of a muscle within the clients limit of flexibility. Stretching will be used to increase flexibility and circulation.

Joint Mobilization consists of movement of the joints through full or partial range of motion. Joint Mobilization increases range of motion, reduces stiffness, lubricates joints, and assists in the facilitation of the nerve pathways.

Senior massage is beneficial for a number of conditions, including poor posture, which results from muscle tension. Massage improves muscle tone and has a positive impact on muscle strength and coordination. This helps improve stability, which in turn helps to reduce the occurrence of injuries due to falls arising from loss of balance.

Massage has been proven to be beneficial in triggering the relaxation response and has been lauded as an effective treatment for insomnia. Chronic lack of rest can have detrimental effects on mood, cognitive abilities and immune system function.
A gentle massage performed in regular intervals can reduce the need for prescription sleeping aids.

Many seniors experience feelings of isolation and increased levels of anxiety as they undergo lifestyle changes and begin to experience the deaths of close friends and family members.
A gentle, caring touch can convey feelings of intimacy, empathy and can foster a deep connection between client and caregiver.

The sense of touch is one of the first that we develop in our mothers womb.
Touch helps us create that first bond with our mothers once we are born, and establishing that physical bond is important early in a baby’s life and throughout their development.

Premature babies in particular require touch to establish a bond between parent and child. Babies who birth quickly or by Cesarean section may be in shock and benefit from touch; the emotional development of a child is heightened by massage. It is suggested that babies who receive massage have fewer health problems and both sleep and feed better than those babies who do not receive massage.

The Benefits of Baby Massage

* Bonding – massage helps build a bond between parent and child.
* Security – massage helps secure a relationship between parent and child.
* Emotional – a baby who receives massage leads to a more confident, well-balanced and confident adult in later life who will be less inclined to experience emotional and psychological difficulties.
* Skin – as with any massage, the texture and condition of the skin improves, leaving baby with a healthy looking skin; it also improves blood circulation and helps remove waste products from the body’s systems.
* Digestive – a massaged baby will suffer from less colic, constipation and diarrhea and will feed better.
* Respiratory – baby massage will lessen coughs, colds and infections of the ear and nasal passages.
* Nervous System – irritability and tantrums are reduced with massage; a calm baby will lead to a calm parent!
* Immune System – massaged babies have stronger immune systems resisting infections and other health problems.
* Joints and Muscles – baby massage leads to more flexible joints and muscles and greater co-ordination of muscular movement.

At Wee Sally’s Therapeutic massage, Expecting and New parents will learn the how to bond with their baby or infant, not only physically but emotionally.
You will be taught how to prepare your baby for massage, and to watch for signs that your baby is becoming irritable and how to stay calm and help your baby relax during their massage session so that everyone can enjoy the experience.
Sally hopes that by teaching parents these tools she can promote a beautiful relationship early on in the family’s life.

All massage will be performed by the parents, or family members participating in the class, and Mothers, Fathers, Brothers and Sisters are all welcome to come along.

Sally trained with Teresa Kirkpatrick Ramsey, BSN, LMT the founder of Baby’s First Massage for her certification in this skill.

Please visit our Services page for pricing details and information on contacting us to arrange your Baby’s First Massage class.

Back and Pelvic pain secondary to pregnancy can be the result of poor posture created by the increased weight load of enlarged breasts, uterus and fetus.
Muscle strain and imbalance.
Myofascial Trigger points.
Fetal Positioning.
Hormonal Effects on ligaments.
Referred pain from Uterine ligaments.

We take extra care to ensure the mothers comfort during her massage.
Elevating her while she lays on her back to relieve ensure that no pressure is placed upon the Vena Cava.

To address the mothers back during massage, we perform side-laying techniques, and appropriate draping to ensure the mothers comfort. Side-laying techniques allow us to massage the upper and lower back, as well as the hip and glutes area with no need for the mother to lay on her stomach.
